Klein Collins Students bring Haude Scribble Society Drawings to Life

Klein Collins Students bring Haude Scribble Society Drawings to Life

The Scribble Society is a creative writing club at Haude Elementary. This semester, students came up with their own ideas for their stories, featuring original characters they designed and drew. Students created talking tacos, karate penguins, hotdog detectives, speedy snails, talking beans, and many other fun characters.

“The students were so excited about their characters that we thought it would be a great opportunity to partner with the Klein Collins Family and Consumer Science Department,” Haude Librarian Ms. Rachel Newberry said.

The Scribble Society sent the Fashion Design 2 students a few samples of students’ characters and asked if they could create three-dimensional versions of students’ characters, and they agreed.

“We recreated the book characters and made them come to life for the second through fifth graders at Haude,” Klein Collins Senior Makhia Ford said. “I think we made them so happy. It was an enjoyable project to do in Fashion Design 2.”

Each Klein Collins Fashion Design student made a character for their Haude student, but Ford made eight herself to ensure each student received their character.

“Being in Fashion Design 2 with a great teacher made the process easy,” Ford said. “The kids were very creative with their drawings, so that made this project a little challenging, but it was so worth it.”

Haude students have been anxiously waiting to see their characters come to life.

“The high schoolers just came to give us our storybook characters, and this is an experience I will remember for a while,” Haude fifth-grader Harlow Campbell said. “I love to design and would like to do something like this one day.”

The Scribble Society students will submit final drafts of their drawings later this month. After that, the stories will be published as a collection in a hardbound book that will be available for check out from the Haude Elementary library. We love the collaboration between these two schools and see how learning can transcend
